When I first joined the MB we ran a thread introducing ourselves and took the time to learn a little about each other. The "what kind of quilter" thread reminded me of that .Its been 18 months since then and we've added a lot of wonderful new people to our lives and to the board since then. Anyone up to doing it again. I'll be glad to start it off.
I'm Cathy. Married to a wonderful man , proud mom of 2 boys, Donald 25 and Josh 23. Have an almost perfect DIL Kristi (we all know no one will ever be better than us for our children ) and then of course theres Graycee (5) shes nanny's one and only little angel right now. We all live in Waleska Ga , home to Reinhardt College. Waleska is a small college town , we have one 4 way flashing light , 1 mom and pop grocery and the Citgo. When people hear college town they think party town . Nope not us, we're farm country. Horses , cows ,goats and chickens. No hogs thankfully cause the chicken perfume the air just fine for us.I started quilting 4 years ago when I decided my DH needed a king size quilt for his birthday. Mind you I knew nothing of rotary cutters , rulers, mat boards or any such thing. Didn't even know they existed. Bought flannel on sale at Wal-mart for a dollor a yard and off I went. Spent my evenings in front of the TV with a yard stick, permanent black marker and a pair of scissors. Made a 9-patch . Hand pieced the top but by the end knew it was getting machine quilted. Believe it or not we still use that quilt on the bed. He refuses to let me hide it. But even after all that I was hooked. Things are different now obviously, I like pictorial, watercolors and plain old patchwork. Turns out I'm a big BOM fan , am currently involved in 5 of them including Cindys of course. I've met alot of wonderful people on this MB and enjoy talking to them all. I've also made a few special friends that are now an almost daily part of my life. Doesn't matter who it is though , at any given time i can walk away from here laughing , crying or smarter than I was when I sat down. Being out here where you can't even see your neighbors house makes it hard to make friends as the life style keeps us very busy so being able to sit down for a minute and chat or catch up makes a great break in the day, Its a pleasure to meet all our new friends and as always Love and Hugs to all my current ones.

Hi, my name is Rhonda and I live in Kent, WA just outside Seattle. We have a lot of stores and stop lights! LOL Actually we have a lot more than I would like. We have lived in the same house for 28 years and I raise Natural colored Romneys (3), 1 white, and 1 Angora goat. We also have 2 Holland Lop rabbits, a Australian cattle dog mix, and 4 adorable cats that run the house and yard.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot , I have 1 hubby of 38 years Ron, and 1 DD Rachel (but I call her Molly to make things confusing) 13 at home. On their own are Rachelle (37) and DH Jeff and DGS's Tyler (17), Cameron (12), and Caleb (10). Tyler and Caleb have MD and are in wheelchairs. Then there is Renee' (35) and DH Scott and DGS David (10) and DGD Sara (9). And last is son Joe (32) and DW Shannon and DGD Lily (2). They are all sweethearts and I wouldn't give up any of them for a minute.I started quilting in 2000 when my son was planning his first marriage (lasted about 6 mo -her loss) and I wanted to make a quilt for their wedding. Took a class and made a sampler that is still on my UFO list and made them a queen size patchwork that I hand quilted and won several ribbons for. Took me 5 mo to hand quilt and then I was hooked on quilting and have not done enough hand quilting since. Too many quilts too little time. I also am learning to spin wool and hope someday to spin enough for a sweater, but in the meantime I knit and crochet the store bought stuff. I also have made many friends on this board, more than I have around town. We are planning to sell our house soon and I wish all you 'friends' were here to help me clean. We just took a dinner break and I need to get back to it. Yuck! And then I need to study for Sunday school, I teach 3rd to 5th grade. So you all have a great weekend!

Hi, I'm Jill.
DH and I met almost 20 years ago and I've been quilting for about 15 of them. Although we met and spent most of our time together in Texas, we've been in southern Oklahoma for about 6 years now. We share our lives with five horses, two greyhounds, an australian shepherd, and a part time cat. We are also pretty rural. The nearest town is seven miles away, (three traffic lights) and the closest place to get fabric and notions is the little Wal-mart there -where I happen to work in the fabric area part time. ![]() I started quilting with a passion for scrap quilts, but lately I find myself leaning toward more pictoral stuff. |

Hi, I'm just plain ole Clare from a suburb of Chicago. I have been married for 27 years to a great guy name Tony who encourages my addiction to fabric by driving me to fabric stores and insisting I go in and check out the latest; and he also fixes all my machines when they go on the fritz. Well he has more time to do it now that he lost his job in January after 25 years with a famous cell phone manufacturer. I also have 2 Boys who will turn 18 and 21 this month. No females in the house, even the schnoodle is a male.
I mostly lurk and learn from everyone on this board and Alex's. I am self taught from Alex's website and books. I also am interested in making doll clothes for the toodles and tiny tears dolls that I have collected. I do basic knitting and crocheting also. Even though I dont post often, I learn something new every week from this board. I 've never had a sewing lesson just the ones my Grandma gave me when I was 11; so I guess I've been sewing for a long time, but that by no means am I an expert on the subject. I'm glad Cindy J started the Star BOM, I have plenty of fabric to choose from to do BOM's for several years and beyond. I thank Dan and Debbie for this site everyday as I have no one else that shares my passion for fabric and sewing. Its like I'm surrounded by a big hug of friends each day with differing views on all subjects. Clare |

This is a great idea Cathy!
Well, I'm Darce Ovel - married to Jeff for almost 20 yrs with 3 teenagers - Natalie, 17; Travis, 16 and Melanie almost 14. They keep life very "exciting" and heaven only knows what we would do without them! I was born and raised in SW Iowa, but we've been in Chatfield, MN for just over 18 yrs. It's home to the one and only stop light in all of Fillmore County (and I think the only county in MN without a lake!! - lol - but are only 20 min south of Rochester - home of the Mayo Clinic (and lots and lots of stop lights!) We also are "parents" to Milo an almost 10 yr old Wirehair Fox Terrier (sometimes more a terror - lol). I'm a part time bookkeeper - now part time at 2 jobs - one a trucking company and I've been there 17 yrs and now I've started at our church too - teenagers don't come cheap you know! You know, I'm not really sure when I started quilting - I think my first quilt was a baby quilt for Natalie - embroidered squares with sashing and a simple border. I know I watched quilting shows on TV - Kaye Woods, then Alex Anderson for quite a while before I really got started. I made a queen size log cabin top (still a UFO) about 14 or so years ago- it was sure a lesson in color values and a couple more baby quilts. I think what really got me going was a gift certificate one Christmas several years ago to a quilt shop - I got fabric for another log cabin and a rag quilt (both lap size). The log cabin got done - the rag quilt - well.....still an obsession was born! I haven't finished many quilts, but I so love making them - it's my therapy - that and knowing I can come to this board for advice and friendship at any time.So that's pretty much me in a nutshell! lol Hugs, Darce |

Wow what a great start to the thread. I thinks its great to know a little about people we talk to everyday. I' m like you Clare I enjoy jumping on here a couple of times a day to see whats up in the world . Its wonderful to be able to go to Washington or Iowa at just a push of a button. No more lurking though , thats why I think this worked so well last year. Don't know who thought of it then but I know it brought me out of hiding and probably a few others.
Darce I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that loves making the quilts but has a hard time finishing. I was informed by DH that I failed to mention the rest of our household in my intro. Inside we have : tazzie, mouser, smokey, miss kitty, sockie and blackie ,all felines Bonnue and Cheyenne are the canine part of the circus. As for ourside we have rachel, bear, bubba, and diamond. Between the animal food and my fabriholic spending I don't understand how hubby and I mange to stay as "healthy" as we are. Can't wait to hear from the other wonderful regulars that hang out here. You'll enjoy their stories and figure out very quickly that when they give advice they know what they're talking about.. |

Hi all-I am Chris and live in Southern NH where I have lived for 22 years. I lived in central NH for 5 years and Colorado for 4 years before that and was born and raised in Massachusetts. I have been married to my DH for almost 31 years-we went to kindergarten together! We started dating in HS and got married right after college. We have 2 grown children-a son who is 28 and a daughter sho is 25 and both are married.
I started quilting back in 1975 because I wanted a quilt for my home. So I took a class, bought material I couldn't afford, cut it all up and never made that quilt! I took some more classes after that and started quilting pretty steadily in the late 70's and haven't stopped since. My mother was a sewing teacher so I have always known how to sew. I mostly make traditional quilts and love scrap quilts which I am determined to do more of to get my stash manageable. I do both machine and hand work and used to hand quilt but I now have a long arm quilter who I use a lot-I love her! So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Chris |
